Seriously, folks:

Allow us to remove our tiaras and top hats for a moment. Billionaires For Bush is not actually collecting money to rebuild Senator Lott’s House; there are tens of thousands of people who need a little more help than he does.  Out of this national tragedy, we hope that this disaster will help to expose the economic disparities that have only worsened under George W. Bush.  We’ll do our part to keep that national discourse going through the work we do, but in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, here are some organizations that could use your help right now:

Community Labor United

TrueMajority is working with Community Labor United (CLU), a coalition of community groups that for nine years has worked in what are now the hardest-hit neighborhoods of New Orleans.  The leaders of CLU have set up a People's Hurricane Fund that will be directed and administered by New Orleans evacuees.

D.A.W.G. is a group comprised of current and former benefit recipients and concerned individuals who come together to share information and ideas and to advocate for each other, their neighbors, and themselves.
