Billionaires For A Two-Tiered Internet say
"Protect our Telecoms- Neutralize Net Neutrality!"
What's net neutrality, you ask?
Net neutrality is the outdated notion that the Internet should remain a level playing field for ideas, fostering "open communication" "civic involvement" and "free speech." It protects equal access to the network, regardless of size or financial might. In other words, net neutrality is as quaint as children's letters to Santa, the Geneva Conventions and the 4th Amendment.
Internet watchdogs like Save The Internet, upstarts like Google and civic-minded bullies like the American Library Association are out to protect net neutrality. Among others, legislators like Olympia Snowe, Tammy Baldwin and Byron Dorgan support it.Fortunately, telecoms and lobbyists are coming to the aid of persecuted media conglomerates everywhere. The plan to dismantle net neutrality would turn the World Wide Web into the world's biggest pay-to-play market since our record companies invented payola: the more you can pay, the faster traffic will get to your site.
The rascals at Save The Internet put it this way:
"Instead of an even playing field, [telecoms] want to reserve express lanes for their own content and services — or those from big corporations that can afford the steep tolls — and leave the rest of us on a winding dirt road".
To which we say “Well, duh”
The Information Superhighway needs a limo lane!
It's a simple system, really: one dollar, one byte.
AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are spending tens of millions lobbying Congress to gut net neutrality; we're proud to join in the fight, but we need your help.
Send your best lobbyists to Washington with a valise full of cash.
Call the recipients of your campaign contributions in Congress. Express your loathing for Senators Olympia Snowe and Byron Dorgan, who have introduced S. 2917, the Internet Freedom Preservation Act, a bill to preserve Net Neutrality.
Whose Internet? Our Internet!
Whose Telecoms? Our Telecoms!
Whose giant media conglomerates? Our giant media conglomerates!
Internet Profiteering Is Not A Crime!
Huzzah!
To celebrate all that interest, our own
